Bios agrosystems MABEE in cooperation with CRES organized the experimental design for Camelina’s trials in Greece (WP3). The aim of the demo trials is to identify the best sowing date, practice of fertilization and strategy of harvesting for Camelina crop in the climatic and environmental conditions of Greece.

Generally, Bios will establish two demo field trials in the north part of Greece, one in Chalkidiki and one in Xanthi, in the frame of the 4CE-MED project. The area of the experiments will be 1 and 0.6 hectares respectively. Three dates of sowing will be applied in Chalkidiki. Τhe first sowing of Camelina’s trial (0,33 ha) took place on 6 December. The second sowing will take place 15 to 20 days after the first, and the third sowing at the end of January.
BIOS’ agronomists, before sowing, took soil samples from both experimental plots, with the aim of soil analysis to determine the soil type and the percentage of available nutrients, so that depending on the upcoming results the right fertilization can be applied. In addition, seed samples were taken for germination control. The whole process of germination control was performed in special Seed Germination Chambers in the BIOS’ advanced laboratory in Xanthi.

Based on the above, it becomes obvious that all the necessary actions have been taken for a good sowing.
The farmer carried out all the necessary cultivation works such as soil preparation, basic fertilization, application of herbicide and the adaptation of the seeder machine. The planting equipment used was a modern mechanical seed dril amazone D9 3500 Super. The local farmers also use this model of seeder for sowing cereal crops.
